BIG WALNUT ELEMENTARY AND MIDDLE SCHOOL YEARBOOK

This yearbook for the Big Walnut elementary schools (Galena, Harlem
and Sunbury) and Big Walnut Middle School is a book of school
pictures which will bring many immediate pleasures to the persons
leafing through it. But the greatest joy will come years from now
when the youngster, grown-up, looks back through its pages recalling
the many happy school activities in which he participated and his
school friends.

In a world where the pressures of living absorb the lives of many
adults, wise parents and teachers help their children find books of
beauty and substance, communicate with them, and respect their
opinions and individuality. The better educated your child becomes
the greater his joys and contributions to society in which he lives
will be.

GALENA ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

It is with great deal of pleasure that we present the 1972-1973 yearbook of the
Galena Elementary.

The pictorial review of both the faculty and student body clearly indicates the
rapid growth we have experienced this year. Fortunately, we have been able to
manage our situation quite successfully with the able assistance of classroom
aides and the help of the faithful playground monitors. Without their support, our
tasks would have been much more difficult. We want to express our thanks and
appreciation to each one of them for their dedicated service.

We have enjoyed having the young folks from Harlem and Sunbury as a part of
our student body this year. We sincerely hope they will remember with pleasure
their school experience in Galena.

Dominating the pages of this yearbook is the pictorial account of the 1972-1973 school year. This was a year of
"change and challenge". Many adjustments had to be made to provide for growth in the Sunbury School. Reorgan-
ization was done to add three sections of fifth grade and an additional fourth grade section. The kindergarten sec-
tions were moved to a modular unit located at the high school. We are pleased to present this book that the mem-
ories of this year of "change and challenge" may be cherished in future years.

The elementary school years play an important part in the life of a child. Attitudes, skills and habits acquired
during pre-school and early school years affect the success of each individual throughout the remainder of his
school years and throughout his entire life. Our goal has been to accept the "change and challenge" and provide
each individual with the opportunity to achieve his highest potential.

Our sincere thanks to the many people who helped us in adjusting to the "change" and helped us with the "chal-
lenge." With combined effort of teachers, parents, and patrons we can point with pride in our school.

PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE

The middle school years are a period of transition marked by enthu-
siasm, uncertainty, curiosity, and adjustments. This yearbook re-
