Daugherty home on North Allen Ave. Altadena, Cal All winter 1924 we enjoyed indescribable scenes from all of our windows - [illegible] Catalina Is 60 mi distant appeared to be only five or so miles away when atmospheric conditions were favorable and Mt Gorgonio 100 mi down state was almost always in sight, beside many villages and ranches and other mountains, but it was not Wilson we enjoyed most because it was our nearest mt. This scene was framed by our windows at breakfast time nearly every morning for 3 1/2 months. It was near ^to living room front windows where we moved our breakfast things, and partly filled up in scenery and were so happy because of our splendid location. We were going down - down - down, toward Superior, thru a tunnel, winding and twisting along as though on as cork-srew At this point then was a fort of immense rock gateway - but for some reason the camera was not adjusted property to take it in. This trip quite completely uses up all of ones adjectives. See the face in the rocks? It's very plain. When this photo was taken we were being ferried down and across the Great Father of Waters, = the Mississippi River. The long train was divided into three ports; all in one ferry boat. Just as the sun was settling we landed in Beaumont, Texas and about midnight we went thru San Antonio I never supposed I could be persuaded to go straight thru old San Antonio. I saw some palm trees, and an arched gateway, bearing the word - Welcome - (the Gateway - not the trees. Having room for another passenger or two I suggested Mrs Lora Chenoweth and her dau-in-law Mrs Earl C They were all ready for a "real estate" trip but I said it wont compare with this trip and so they hurriedly got their over nite bag ready, while I wrote a note to the realtor. We went to S. Bernardino Redlands, then to Yaicaipa, where we turned into Potato Canyon Rd which took us to Oak Glen Dune - one mile high, with Mt Gorgonio in the background. Delightful up there; over night, then on to Beaumont by mt ridge route From there to San Jacincto via Gorgonio Pass (Jack Rabbit) Dinner in old Inn at S. Jacincto - then on to Hermit, in Perris Valley. Splendid trip Apr 28 Janet took me to Hermit to see Ramona Pagaent.
