This year, in addition to the colorful performances given at halftime of the football games, the marching band participated in several contests. One busy weekend in October saw the "Golden Eagle" band marching at halftime of the Mount Gilead game competing at Fairborn, and participating in the Buckeye Valley Band-O-Rama. The hard practices, the rough games, and at the end, the joy that comes with victory, and the bitterness that accompanies defeat are all a part of this experience, an experience that could be compared in many ways to the tapestry that is life. For seniors, that last game was both a happy experience and a sad one. Happy because the Eagles won the game, yet sad because it was the last high school football game for these players. Vol. 4 1973 The Goal Was Greatness Trying to live up to the expectations of a successful winning season is a difficult. task. A winning team must be driven by a burning desire to win. Winning should be a passion to them. No one is ever happy to come in second. The man who loses learns to lose gracefully, nevertheless, he continues to covet victory --- even more. Although the regular basketball season ended 13-5, it proved at times, to be a disappointment. Two losses to arch rival Buckeye Valley by the Eagles was such a time.
