Description
This scene was west of
El Centro. First after El C
came desert - and a gypsum
or some other kind of crusher,
then a down grade - with mts
in the background. The mts
shown in photo. In the
valley, after the crusher
were thousands of flowers -
prettiest of which was the
Oco-tillo (Oc-o tee-o) will
its tall, whiplike
branches covered with terrible
thorns and tiny green leaves
the whips tipped with a long
seven or eight inch bravel
covered with half inch long
coral and yellow blossoms, quite
the handsomest red blossoms I've
ever seen. Even Chas. who hated
like sixty to stop, got out and came
to Mrs Hatchard and I who were gathering
the blossoms, and said they were beautiful.
He even let me carry the remains
of that boquet clear to Pasadena.
There were many other new dainty
beautiful flowers in that valley.
The Mts were wonderful.
